Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered counseling method for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about changing health risk behaviors.
This four-week online course will explore the principles and applications of Motivational Interviewing in behavioral health services. It will examine the spirit and principles of Motivational Interviewing, its fundamental method and how to tailor Motivational Interviewing in work with consumers of mental health and addiction services.
Emphasis will be placed on helping people resolve ambivalence about changing health risk behaviors, evoking change talk, change planning, applications of Motivational Interviewing skills with different mental health, addiction and health behaviors across a variety of clinical settings, and the latest developments in Motivational Interviewing.
