This day-long course will provide various educational experiences for counselors and clinicians to learn more about what it means to be Transgender and/or *Gender Expansive. The presenters will include ways in which agencies and individuals can be more inclusive in their day-to-day work by exploring language usage, terminology, and best practices for treating substance use disorders and for working with Transgender and/or Gender Expansive individuals, especially in behavioral and mental health settings.
*Gender Expansive is an inclusive term that may describe various gender identities, as well as identities in flux.

Gia Drew is an LGBTQ Advocate, Speaker, Educator, and Writer. Originally from Boston, Gia has called Maine home for the past sixteen years. Brandy Brown, LCSW, is the Gender Clinic Coordinator at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital/ Maine Medical Center and is one of the therapists at Maine Medical Center’s Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry practice. Brandy has worked within different systems of care including psychiatric inpatient hospitalization, residential settings with vulnerable populations including homeless youth, severe psychiatric disorders and neurorehabilitation.
