This workshop will review the current status of college mental health and discuss the USM Cares Suicide Prevention program at the University of Southern Maine. It will specifically review salient mental health issues in higher education and focus on suicide prevention efforts. Best practices, conceptual frameworks, and challenges will be explored. Participants will identify trends in mental health service provision, gain a conceptual understanding of suicide prevention on college campuses, and be able to describe three suicide prevention best practices. Participants also will have an opportunity to explore challenges to implementation.
