Online Course Evaluation – How it works:

We are trying a new process for course evaluations using our online course system. We hope this will ultimately provide a smoother experience for you by allowing you to access your certificate immediately after completing the course evaluation. Here is how it works:

After the live meeting ends on March 26, you will receive an email with an evaluation access code.

1. Log into this online course
2. Under Course Content, click “Step 1: Access Evaluation” and follow the instructions to enter the code.
3. After you enter the code, you will be able to continue to the next step of the course and complete the evaluation.
4. After you submit the evaluation, click Mark Complete and you will be able to download or print your certificate. The certificate will also be emailed to you as a PDF.

Course Description

Dr. Eric Brown and Francine Garland Stark have collaborated in initiatives to support improved health care attention to domestic violence for over 25 years. They will provide a lecture, interactive exercise, and time for discussion to increase participants’ knowledge of domestic abuse and violence; best practice in health care interventions; and the community-based resources available to support safety for survivors and accountability and change for those who act abusively.

You will learn to:

• Discuss domestic abuse and violence –its prevalence, dynamics, and health care implications
• Create opportunities for patients/clients to disclose information about their experience of domestic abuse and violence;
• Integrate “universal education” as a method of providing essential information and support; and
• Link patients/clients with local resources to assist with crisis intervention, support, advocacy, sheltering, and other critical services.

About the Presenters

Eric Brown, MD  Dr. Brown is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine and the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program, he initially worked in role of Family Physician /Medical Director at the Penobscot Nation Health Center and The Penobscot Nation Substance Abuse Program and became duel boarded in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Read more

Francine Garland Stark Francine began her career in the movement to end domestic violence in 1985 as a volunteer for Women Helping Battered Women in Burlington, VT. She served as the Administrative Coordinator and later Community Response and Training Coordinator for Spruce Run Association (now Partners for Peace) in Penobscot County from 1986-2009, and as Executive Director of Hope and Justice Project in Aroostook County 2009-2015. Read more

Contact hours A completed evaluation is required to receive a contact hour for the following:

• 1.5 contact hours for nurses The Co-Occurring Collaborative Serving Maine is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
• 1.5 contact hours for social workers, licensed clinical professional counselors, and behavioral health professionals
• 1.5 contact hours independent study Category I contact hours for Psychologists are provided. CCSME is a pre-approved sponsor and provider of Professional Education Activities for Psychologists.
• 1.5 contact hours CHES. CCSME is a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
• 1.5 contact hours  pending for alcohol and drug counselors from the board of alcohol and drug counselors
