2023.01.31 | 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. | Use of Non-Prescribed Gabapentin: Why is this happening and why is it important?
The use of non-prescribed gabapentin is rising. This session will review the clinical effects of gabapentin use by linking to gabapentin pharmacology and pharmacokinetic properties. The prevalence of non-prescribed gabapentin and risk factors will be described. Finally, clinical outcomes of non-prescribed gabapentin use will be reviewed.
Objectives:
1. Identify pharmacology and pharmacokinetic properties of gabapentin that link to key clinical effects
2. Describe the prevalence and risk factors of non-prescribed gabapentin use
3. Detail clinical outcomes of non-prescribed gabapentin use

Presenter
Stephanie Nichols, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP Dr. Stephanie Nichols is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of New England College of Pharmacy, Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Tufts University School of Medicine, and a Psychiatric and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Pharmacist at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She graduated from the University at Buffalo with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completed an Inpatient Pharmacy Practice Residency at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Nichols is dual-board certified as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and a Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP) and is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP).
