Description:
Dr. Gray will provide a general overview of the complex and evolving context for cannabis use. The talk will then focus on cannabis use disorder (CUD) and its clinical implications. An overview of evidence-based psychosocial strategies will be followed by a summary of findings to date on candidate pharmacotherapies for CUD. Dr. Gray will then provide perspective on incorporation of evidence-based CUD treatment practices in challenging clinical scenarios, including co-occurring opioid use disorder and mental health disorders.

Objectives:

  • Summarize current knowledge regarding cannabis-related benefits and harms
  • Describe evidence-based psychosocial treatments for cannabis use disorder
  • Indicate candidate pharmacotherapies being examined for cannabis use disorder

About the Presenter

 

Kevin M. Gray, MD Dr Gray  is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and serves as Assistant Vice President for Advancing Research Partnerships at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). As a child and adolescent psychiatrist co-leading the MUSC Youth Collaborative, he conducts National Institutes of Health supported clinical research, contributing novel advances to treatments for substance use disorders in adolescents and young adults. Dr. Gray serves on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and is Principal Investigator of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Physician Scientist Program in Substance Use.
