This talk will give an overview of changes to federal telehealth regulations permitting buprenorphine telehealth and describe implementation and outcomes of the Rhode Island Buprenorphine Hotline, an audio-only buprenorphine telehealth program in Rhode Island.

Presenters:
Elizabeth A. Samuels, MD, MPH, MHS
Dr. Samuels is an emergency and addiction medicine physician and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the UCLA Department of Emergency Medicine. She completed her emergency medicine training at the Brown Emergency Medicine Residency Program, a health service research and health policy fellowship at the Yale National Clinician Scholars Program, and is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine. From 2018-2021, she served as the consulting Assistant Medical Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Drug Overdose Prevention Program. Her work focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of social emergency medicine and health equity initiatives, including community health worker/peer recovery programs, low barrier substance use disorder treatment initiation, harm reduction services delivery, and emergency department programs to address health related social needs.
