Description

Note: This course is only available to individuals who practice or reside in Maine.

Supervisors are critical partners in the process of organizations improving co-occurring capability for their programs and their staff. Supervisors are responsible for translating content into day to day instruction and support for staff incorporating new skills and approaches into their work, as well as for translating “upward” the need for clear guidance in policy, procedure, and practice for how co-occurring work should be carried out in their program and/or organization.

This training is a guide for supervisors to be effective in this important role. The presentation begins with a discussion about how organizations can best support supervisors to have the policy and procedure guidance they need in their work with direct staff. It then goes on to illustrate how the 6 CCISC principles and interventions lead to 12 steps of co-occurring competency for adult and child staff. The presentation shows how the 12 steps and other optional tools can be used to develop a baseline assessment of individual and team co-occurring competency for the program, which in turn leads to a competency development plan for the supervisor to follow.

The next section of the presentation provides specific tips for supervisors on how to help staff improve when working on each of the 12 steps of competency. The final section (putting it all together) shows how to use the ILSA Supervision Guide to organize individual and team case-based discussions for learning. Additional materials mentioned in the training will be provided in addition to the slides.
