Participants will learn specific skills and techniques for how to engage in collaborative discussions about substance use within which the youth and/or family can be guided to make better decisions. By the end of the webinar, participants will have learned how to reinforce strengths used to make decisions about substance use and integrate this understanding of substance use into a person/family’s life

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand how to approach youth and families as collaborative partners in talking about their substance use and where it fits into their lives.
  2. Developing specific skills and example “scripts” for addressing substance use challenges, including determining whether the person or family member has a problem, their stage of change, their strengths and skills, and their next steps.

How it Works

This course includes a 2-part video presentation by Kenneth Minkoff, MD, followed by a quiz requiring a passing grade of 80% or higher. After completing the video lessons and quizzes, you will be directed to a course evaluation. Once you have completed the evaluation, you will be able to download a .pdf certificate to get your course credit.

About the Presenter

Kenneth Minkoff, MD | Dr. Kenneth Minkoff is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Senior at ZiaPartners, Inc., a behavioral health system consultation firm in Tucson, AZ. He is Board-Certified as an addiction psychiatrist and community psychiatrist. Dr. Minkoff has been recognized as a national and international leader in the strategic development of quality-driven managed behavioral health care systems and integrated services and systems for complex populations for over 25 years, through the development of the Comprehensive Continuous Integrated System of Care approach, initially developed in the 1990’s as a system design model for implementing integrated services for individuals with co-occurring mental illness and SUD.

100% Attendees required to participate and be present in the full duration of the learning activity and complete/submit an evaluation form. Partial credit will not be awarded.
