Shifting Tides: Emerging Drug Trends and Threats in New England” will explore the latest substance use trends, evolving drug threats, and the key factors driving these changes. This session will provide an in-depth look at emerging synthetic drugs, shifting overdose risks, and the broader issues  shaping the region’s drug landscape. Attendees will gain valuable insights to enhance their understanding and readiness in addressing these ongoing challenges.

Presenters:

Robert F. Lawlor Jr. is a subject matter expert in addiction, policing, investigations, and overdose response, specializing in public health-public safety collaborations to combat the overdose crisis.

A former New Haven Police Department supervisor, he held key roles in narcotics enforcement, robbery, and homicide investigations. Since 2015, he has served as Connecticut’s Drug Intelligence Officer with New England HIDTA, working with the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) to reduce overdoses through data-driven strategies.

He holds degrees from POST University, the University of New Haven, and Georgetown University, along with certifications from the DEA and NYPD. A recipient of multiple law enforcement awards, he is also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and a dedicated advocate for officer well-being.

Continuing Medical Education:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Education and CCSME. The Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Education is accredited by the Maine Medical Association Committee on Continuing Medical Education and Accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
