This webinar will help you understand the disproportionate impact of substance use disorder, mental health and infectious diseases in the unhoused population and  give you the tools to better screen, prevent and treat them.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Epidemiology of homelessness and infectious disease in Maine
  2. Common chronic conditions and infectious diseases in the unhoused population
  3. How best to prevent, screen and treat common infectious diseases in the unhoused

Presenters:

Amy West  FNP-C

Amy West is a Family Nurse Practitioner who currently practices in addiction medicine at Penobscot Community Health Care. She completed her Bachelors of Nursing in 2009 and Masters of Nursing in 2014, both at Northeastern University. Prior to working for PCHC, she worked for Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program both as an RN and FNP for 9 years. While working in Boston she developed a passion for helping patients navigate barriers to quality healthcare. She has been able to continue this passion with PCHC and their community partners.

In addition to public health, Amy also has a love of education. She has worked with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Northeastern University Bouve College of Health Sciences and the University of Maine as adjunct faculty.
