Description
This three-part course will provide an overview of pregnancy care for addiction medicine specialists and their teams so that providers can learn how to identify potentially emergent issues when caring for pregnant women with SUD. Topics including physiological changes, common complaints, potential medical issues and complications, treatment, and care will be discussed throughout the timeline of prenatal to 23 weeks, 23 weeks to term, at term, and postpartum.
Objectives
Be able to…
1. Describe and counsel the patient on the major physiological changes during pregnancy and the common, non-emergent symptoms of pregnancy
2. Recognize and perform initial management of obstetrical emergencies during all stages of pregnancy and the postpartum period
3. Counsel patients on the effects of substance misuse on pregnancy
Presenter: Matthias G. Muenzer, MD
Dr. Muenzer is currently practicing addiction medicine as medical director of three clinics in Massachusetts. Following early career training in anesthesiology, pathology, and surgery, he completed ObGyn training and board certification in both Germany and the US and spent over 2 decades as an ObGyn in hospitals and clinics in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
