Self-care is important to help counselors maintain their personal wellness to be able to practice to the full standards of their field. In this course, you will learn about how engaging in self-care can be a strategy to maintain strong ethical practices as a counselor.

Learning Objectives:

  • Enhance awareness and understanding of burnout and compassion fatigue as occupational hazards of helping and caregiving professionals.
  • Understand common triggers and warning signs of burnout and compassion fatigue.
  • Enhance awareness and understanding of the importance of self-care in the context of professional ethical responsibility
  • Develop a nuanced and individualized view of what self-care is
  • Develop a personal self-care plan that meets your needs and fits into your lifestyle

How it works:

This course contains two video lessons, each followed by a short quiz. You will watch each video, then complete the quiz before moving to the next section of the course. A completed course evaluation is required to receive a certificate.

About the Presenter

Kelli S. Fox, LCSW, CCS, LADC Kelli earned a bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University in NJ and a master of social work degree at the University of New England in Maine. I have been teaching in higher education since 1994. Throughout her clinical work, Kelli has learned from mentors and her own experiences to recognize the power of positive and authentic relationship to create healing and recovery for individuals and families, including very young children and adult survivors of violence. Read more
